Programme description
Master's studies in English Philology with a general academic profile will allow you to deepen your knowledge of literary studies, linguistics and the cultures of English-speaking countries (mainly the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada). You will acquire the ability to critically evaluate sources of knowledge, independently formulate research problems and design ways to solve them. At the same time, you will improve your ability to use English in speech and writing.
Most of the courses we offer are elective courses, held in small groups. Thanks to this, in the course of your studies you can flexibly shape your own educational and research path depending on your interests and needs, focusing mainly on one of the disciplines or choosing courses within each of them, i.e. literary, linguistic and cultural studies courses. The courses "Soft skills: organizing independent work and coping with stress" and "Managing the study process" will help you cope efficiently with various aspects of master's studies at the Faculty of English.
At the recruitment stage, you do not choose a master's seminar - the interview checks your knowledge of English (at least level C1) and your predispositions to undertake master's studies and conduct research in the disciplines we offer. During the first semester, you will participate in a number of elective classes that will deepen your knowledge of various methodological approaches and trends in linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and you will also become familiar with the research conducted at the Faculty of English and the professional competences of Professors authorized to conduct master's seminars. This will allow you to carefully choose your supervisor and the topic of your master's thesis. The master's examination at the end of your studies is the only exam you must pass - during your studies we focus on a regular, continuous assessment process.
