Programme description
The studies on the faculty of East Slavic Philology / Russian Philology specialisation belong to the area of education in the humanities.
The study programme enables the students to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the fields of linguistics, literary studies and cultural realities, to acquire and develop the ability to use the leading language - Russian (level B2+ of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR) and to use (level B1 of CEFR) an additional selected Western European foreign language (English or German), as well as to acquire general philological knowledge.
In addition to the intensive study of foreign languages, the Bachelor's degree programme familiarises students with the basics of the research workshop, including how to conduct basic analyses, how to interpret the collected results.
Equipping them with the knowledge and skills to interpret linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and contexts of the East Slavic area, while confronting them with their native linguistic competence and knowledge of cultural realities, will allow them to use this knowledge in professional work of different nature, in which specialised linguistic-communicative and intercultural qualifications are necessary.
Course advantages:
- learning Russian (from scratch) aimed at mastering language skills at the level B2+ of the CEFR,
- learning of a selected second Western European language (English or German),
- the possibility of spending a semester abroad (as part of programme ERASMUS) or at another university in Poland (as part of programme MOST),
- developing your own interests, e.g. in the East Slavic Research Circle, 'TheArt' Theatre Group etc.

Graduate competencies
The study programme enables you to acquire and improve fundamental competences and skills desired on the labour market, such as:
- the ability to prepare oral and written statements in Russian (level B2+ of the CEFR) and an additional selected foreign language of Western European (English or German) at the level B1 of the CEFR,
- the ability to interpret linguistic, literary and cultural phenomena and contexts in the East Slavic area while confronting them with their native linguistic competence and knowledge of cultural realities,
- the ability to search for and evaluate information, analyse and interpret linguistic, literary and cultural texts,
- effective organisation of their own work, the ability to make independent choices,
- the ability to work both individually and in teams, responsibility in carrying out assigned tasks,
- awareness of the need for continuous updating of one's knowledge and skills in the context of one's profession and the need to integrate information from various disciplines.
Career prospects
The acquired knowledge of linguistics, literary studies and literary and cultural comparative studies, a wide range of skills, e.g. in foreign languages, the ability to search for and evaluate information, analyse and interpret linguistic, literary and cultural texts, prepare oral and written statements, as well as the competence to carry out assigned tasks and projects, work in a team and independently, meet the needs of the labour market for candidates and enable them to take up jobs as:
- Russian-Polish translator,
- Russian lecturer,
- manager and organiser of cultural life,
- recruiter of employees from and for the Eastern Slavic language area,
- specialist in state and local administration units oriented to international cooperation, production, trade and service companies cooperating with foreign partners, marketing, logistics and customer service departments in companies with an international and culturally diverse character.
