Programme description
The Dutch studies BA programme includes courses in language and literature complemented with cultural components. Students learn Dutch from scratch and attend academic courses on various aspects of the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as its current and former colonial territories (South Africa, Suriname, Antilles, Indonesia). A four-semester module Cultural History of the Low Countries helps students understand the cultural and social complexities of the Dutch-speaking countries. The curriculum is supplemented by elective courses form the university’s and department’s offers. Classes are conducted by native speakers (from Belgium and the Netherlands) and by Polish teachers of Dutch whose additional expertise in the fields of English, German, Spanish, and Slavic languages, architecture, art history, and psychology guarantees an interdisciplinary course offer.
Our graduates of the BA Dutch studies are well equipped to face the challenges of the modern dynamic work market. They demonstrate a very good command of Dutch (B2) and English (B2), and are aware of linguistic and cultural complexities, which enables them to work in a multinational environment.
